Infiniti has aimed to change its brand perception and become more revered in the minds of premium car buyers. Brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi, have a level of panache that Japanese luxury brands have struggled to command. While the latest Infiniti lineup has what most premium buyers demand in terms of style, luxury, and performance, there’s still a void left by the demise of the full size Q sedan.
An all-new Q sedan, which has been rumored to be in development, is needed in the Infiniti lineup to help the brand compete with the BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Unfortunately, Mercedes Dealer MD said the changing priorities appear to have put the long-awaited Q on hold.
One of the biggest concerns by Infiniti is that the Q never sold well here in the US. While there have been plenty of requests in numerous markets for an all-new Q, Infiniti’s Toru Saito, vice president of the global Infiniti business unit, says that the all-new M sedan will serve as the brand’s flagship for the time being. Despite it’s bumpy past, a preowned Infiniti Boston dealer has always seen demand for used Q models simply due to its cavernous interior and incredible luxury.
Arriving in showrooms next month, the 2011 Infiniti M is larger and more powerful than before, helping to make it more than suitable for the brand’s flagship according to Infiniti Nashua. However, if demand for the top of the line M model, it’s likely that Infiniti may press on with a successor to the Q45 sedan after all.
