Infiniti Looks to Bolster Lineup, Increase Dominance

In addition to Infiniti launching their very own electric based vehicle, based on the Nissan Leaf,  expect to see some more models begin to make some headlines in the near future. Audi Parts San Diego said Infiniti looks poised to expand and further their dominance with the introduction of an entry-level “People Mover”, a high performance coupe/convertible, and a small rival for the Audi A3.

“We need a little bit more in the lineup for Infiniti, new models,” said Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s global design chief. “We need some additional variation to get a larger customer base.”

Rumors are out that Infiniti is in the process of creating a small sized city car to increase practicality and luxury while combating the city craze. The A3 competitor will be based on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class platform. According to CT Executive Nissan, The Nissan/Renault and Daimler AG partnership is to thank for this one!

The Mercedes-Benz A-Class platform will also be used for the Infiniti SUV People Mover. This vehicle is not a minivan and not an SUV, yet its sales will not, according to Infiniti, affect the sales of the FX and EX Crossovers.

One of the most exciting possibilities is of Infiniti adding their very own version of the GT-R. Many argue that the 500 horsepower image of the GT-R does not fit that with Infiniti, so it should be interesting to see how things pan out.

It looks as though the engines of the smaller car and SUV will be basic 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engines; new to Infiniti. Infiniti is also in the making of a 4-cylinder diesel option for the G sedan, coupe, and the EX crossover.

These are exciting times at Infiniti Westborough, as Infiniti looks to further bolster their lineup to become the dominant force you would expect them to be.
